There are various rituals and worship practices associated with the Shiva Purana, especially on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri, which is the great night of Lord Shiva. Some of them are:

- Fasting: The devotee should observe a fast on the day of Shivaratri, eating only fruits and drinking water or milk. The fast should be broken only on the next day after sunrise. Fasting on Shivaratri is said to confer virtues equivalent to the worship done for the whole year¹.

- Abhisheka: The devotee should perform abhisheka or ritual bathing of the Shiva linga with different substances such as water, milk, curd, honey, ghee, sugarcane juice, etc. Abhisheka is a way of expressing devotion and gratitude to Shiva and seeking his blessings³.

- Shodasopachara: The devotee should worship Shiva with sixteen modes of worship, such as offering sandalwood paste, flowers, incense, lamps, fruits, betel leaves, etc. These offerings symbolize the surrender of one's body, mind and soul to Shiva³.

- Mantra: The devotee should chant mantras or sacred syllables in praise of Shiva, such as Om Namah Shivaya (I bow to Shiva), Mahamrityunjaya Mantra (the great mantra of victory over death), Rudram (a hymn from the Yajurveda), etc. Mantras are powerful sounds that create positive vibrations and invoke Shiva's presence⁴.

- Meditation: The devotee should meditate on the form or the formless aspect of Shiva, depending on one's preference and level of spiritual advancement. Meditation is a way of attaining union with Shiva and experiencing his bliss and grace⁴.

- Charity: The devotee should feed the poor and the brahmins (priests) and make donations to them according to one's capacity. Charity is a way of expressing compassion and generosity and sharing one's merits with others³.
